“Before Aspire, I was lost in my high school career. I had dreams of attending a top UC, but I wasn’t confident in my SAT scores, and I knew I would need help with my college applications. As a low-income student with a single mother, I could not afford test prep or college counseling. Luckily, my mother found Aspire.”
Aspire has the pleasure of working with students from diverse backgrounds, offering scholarships to those who cannot afford market rate tutoring. Dain came to us late in his junior year just a few weeks before his first SAT and ACT sittings, overwhelmed by the sudden onslaught of tests and college considerations that were thrown on his plate. As a low-income student in Oakland, he didn’t have access to good support.
“They gave me a 95% scholarship for one-on-one tutoring. They also gave me the chance to attend College Prep Camp, a private summer program that I would never have had access to without Aspire’s scholarship. Aspire matched me with wonderful tutors who helped me boost my grades and SAT score as well as navigate the college application process. When I needed help on homework or my college applications, no matter how late it was, they were there for me, even through text and email.
My grades improved tremendously, I made the honor roll, and my SAT score went up by 160 points. But best of all, I got into my dream school– UCLA. This organization gave me the motivation to push forward and not let myself fall behind. Aspire levels the playing field for students like me, and working with them has been a privilege and an unforgettable experience. Thank you for everything, Aspire.”
With the help of Aspire’s Director of Programs, Sy Kim, and tutors Mike Wright and Anton Mates, and a lot of self-motivation and hard work, Dain got on track and was accepted to UCLA! Congratulations to Dain! We’re so proud of you, and are excited for this next chapter of your life! (Photo of Dain with one of his tutors, Mike)
